CAPITOL PEAK 50 MILE / 55K AND RELAY
The Course
50 mile Course includes three 14-18 miles loops and two 2000 foot climbs with an overall elevation gain of 7,000 feet. The elevation above sea level varies between 500 feet and at 2,659 feet on top of Capitol Peak. Due to the recent course modification, the second climb is only about 700 feet (at approximately 35 miles into the race). The course has 90% single track hiking and horse trails throughout Capitol State Forest. Terrain is generally rolling in between the major climbs and descents. There are also great views on a clear day of Mt Rainier, Mt St Helens, and other Cascade Volcanoes on a clear day! 55 km course follows the same as the 50 mile course but turns toward Falls Creek to the Finish at the first passing of Wedekind aid station.
Since the Start/Finish is at the Falls Creek Day Use Parking Area the course will be run in the same direction and on the same trails as in 2006 and 2007. The Falls Creek Day Use Parking area is just 200 yards from the campground. The Capitol Peak climb will occur earlier in the race (approximately 15 miles into the race).
RELAY: Relay follows the
entire 50 mile course. 2-person exchange is at Wedekind Aid Station (27 mile)
Parking
is located at Falls Creek Campground or in designated
areas for crew exchanges (see crew directions). Please only park
on gravel areas and not in grass or in vegetated areas!
The cut-off time is 7:00 pm, so take advantage of the early start if you think you will take more then 13 hours.
NOTICE!! The course has been modified due to a major landslide in the Hells Creek canyon section. The 50 miler is rerouted to a out-and-back between Wedekind (A6) and Aid Station 7. The only other change that effects both the 50 mile and 55K course is the out-and-back up Capitol Peak road (without the steep trail up the back side of the Peak). This reroute also eliminates the Iron Creek aid station. See the map and course description for more details.
For general view of the course see the 50 mile Course Map (To Print entire map: Use Mozilla Firefox browser and Change Page Orientation to Landscape in Page Setup!)
For mile by mile details, see the New course description (2008 Reroute with no Hells Ck canyon!)
