SORRY THIS EPIC WILL HAVE TO BE CANCELLED!!
DUE TO: HEAVY SPRING SNOW AND LACK OF TRAIL MAINTENANCE
WONDERLAND TRAIL
EPIC # 4
93 MILES 23,000 FT OF GAIN IN TWO DAYS
THE ROUTE: This is a northwest classic. circling the awesome mt rainier in the heart of washington's casacade mountains has gotta be a top priority of any ultra-runner. this trail will make us pay for it's staggering scenery with equally mind(and leg) blowing ruggedness and elevation changes. and along the way the ecosystem drastically changes as we make our way around the massive mountain that dictates the weather forecast on it's surroundings. with a high elevation of 7,000 ft at panhandle gap and a low of 2000 in most valleys we're likely to experience a variety of weather especailly in early may when nature can still be a little wild. deep forests, cold creeks, open meadows will keep us energized as we rumble and wrangle along.
THE PLAN: We'll get started from the longmire ranger station, which is along the southwest portion of the loop, at sunrise on saturday. day one will take us clockwise 44 miles to isput campground. day two we'll round the northeast corner and continue 49 miles back to longmire. DAY ONE MAP DAY TWO MAP PROFILES
LOGISTICS: Bring everything you'll need for camping saturday nite and cooking dinner and breakfast and the supplies you'll need for day two with you to longmire. i'll arrange to have a friend transport the gear to isput so we don't have to carry everything for the weekend the whole way . drop bags at any other location won't be available unless you mail them in advance yourself to the appropriate ranger station (sunrise ranger station seems like the only worthwile option at about 20 miles into day 2). email me for more information on this option if you're interested.
CONTACT ME: Please let
me know if you're planning of attending so i can arrange for enough
transportation of gear and enough camping space.
